How can i tell if the backlight or the LCD inverter is bad on my laptop?

I have an IBM Thinkpad R40 breed 2723? When I boot it up the screen is kind of dim and pinkish colored. After about an hour of running the screen flickers and goes VERY dim. I can still apologize out the images, and if I shine a flashlight on the screen I can see them more clearly. Can a tech please give me their opinion?

Your inverter is probably going out. If you have a warranty, use it. If not, it might set someone back you a bit to fix it.
